“Life (ayu) is the combination of body, senses, mind and reincarnating soul. Ayurveda is the most sacred science of life, beneficial to humans both in this world and the world beyond.”

— Charaka

Ayurveda means “the science of life.” More than a system of health, it is a way of understanding the relationship between ourselves, nature, consciousness, and the rhythms of life.

Ayurveda is a 5,000-year-old system of natural health originating in India. At its heart is a simple understanding: there is no one-size-fits-all approach to wellbeing.

Your body, mind, energy, digestion, emotions, and daily rhythms are uniquely yours. Ayurveda offers a personalised way to understand yourself—and practical ways to come back into balance.

Meditation & Ayurveda

Healing begins with awareness

Ayurveda recognises that wellbeing begins with our relationship to ourselves. When the mind becomes quieter through meditation, we become more sensitive to the subtle messages of the body. We can begin to notice what nourishes us, what depletes us, and where we may be moving out of balance.

Meditation creates the inner space to listen. Ayurveda gives us the wisdom to understand what we hear.

Together, they offer a powerful pathway toward greater self‑awareness, balance, and vitality

The Five Elements

Everything Begins with the Five Elements

According to Ayurveda, everything in nature—including our bodies and our minds—are composed of the five fundamental elements

These elements combine in different proportions to create our individual constitution and influence how we think, feel, digest, move, rest, and respond to the world around us.

Space

Akash

Openness • Clarity • Possibility

Space creates room for everything to exist. In the body, it creates the spaces within and between tissues and organs. In the mind, it is associated with spaciousness, creativity, awareness, and the ability to listen deeply.

Air

Vayu

Movement • Creativity • Communication

Air governs movement and flow within the body—from breath and circulation to the movement of thoughts and energy. In the mind, it expresses curiosity, imagination, communication, and creativity.

Fire

Agni

Transformation • Digestion • Insight

Fire is the principle of transformation. It supports digestion, metabolism, vision, and the processing of experience. In the mind, it brings discernment, focus, motivation, and clarity.

Water

Jala

Flow • Nourishment • Connection

Water nourishes, hydrates, cools, and connects. In the body, it supports healthy fluids and tissues. In the mind and emotions, it expresses compassion, adaptability, receptivity, and connection.

Earth

Prithvi

Stability • Strength • Grounding

Earth provides structure and stability. It supports the body's tissues, strength, and resilience. In the mind, it brings steadiness, patience, groundedness, and inner security.

THE THREE DOSHAS

Your Unique Mind-Body Constitution

At its core, Ayurveda is based on the understanding that everything in nature — including you — is made up of the five elements. These combine uniquely to produce the three fundamental energies, or doshas: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha.

Your individual balance of these — your prakriti — influences everything from digestion and energy to mood, sleep, and resilience.

VATA

Air + Space

Governs movement, creativity, and communication.

PITTA

Fire + Water

Governs metabolism, digestion, and transformation.

KAPHA

Earth & Water

Governs structure, stability, and nourishment.

Your unique constitution—your Prakriti—provides a blueprint for understanding your natural tendencies.

It can offer insight into your digestion, energy, sleep, emotional patterns, resilience, and the environments, foods, routines, and practices that may support you best.

When we understand our nature, we can stop trying to follow someone else's formula for wellbeing.

Explore the Five Senses

Healing through the senses

The Inner Pharmacy

Ayurveda teaches that we are constantly receiving information through our five senses—and that what we see, hear, touch, taste, and smell can influence our experience of wellbeing.

These sensory pathways can become doors of perception, helping us cultivate greater awareness and harmony.

Meditation helps us become quiet enough to notice what is happening within. Ayurveda then invites us to become more conscious about what we bring into our inner world.

01

SOUND — Space

Healing music, mantra, primordial sounds, and meditation can create a sense of spaciousness and calm.

03

SIGHT — Fire

What we see becomes part of our experience. Nature, beautiful imagery, sacred geometry, and the Sri Yantra can invite attention inward and support contemplation.

05

SMELL— Earth

Aroma has a powerful relationship with memory and emotion. Ayurveda has traditionally used aromatic plants and oils to support different qualities of balance.

02

TOUCH — Air

The skin is our largest sensory organ. Mindful touch, self-massage, and Ayurvedic Abhyanga—warm oil massage—can support relaxation, nourishment, and connection with the body.

04

TASTE — Water

Ayurveda recognises six tastes—sweet, sour, salty, pungent, bitter, and astringent. Each has a different relationship with the doshas, offering another way to understand how food can support balance.

Discovering Your Dosha

What Is Your Nature Telling You?

Understanding your constitution can be the beginning of a fascinating journey of self-discovery.

 - Why do certain foods energise you while others leave you feeling heavy?

 - Why do you thrive on routine—or feel restricted by it?

 - Why does stress affect you differently from someone else?

Ayurveda offers a framework for understanding these individual differences.
